Apple iPad2 Review: Improved but still with Limited Connectivity

Apple must have been the biggest thorn in the neck of the rest of the tablet makers in the industry. While others are busy catching up on the first generation of iPad, Apple has already released the second generation, the iPad2. The iPad2 has slimmer design and lighter weight with some minor modifications but basically it’s the same as its forerunner.

The upgraded features of iPad2 include having the Apple A5 SoC processor that made it function more efficiently than the first one. An Accelerometer and three-axis gyro-sensor features on the other hand support more advance gaming. It is also compatible with all the iPhone applications without requiring any modifications. Two cameras are the other additions of this iPad model.  The front camera can be used to capture still photos as well as for FaceTime calls and the rear camera is for 720p video recording. This is also built with the advance iOS4 that can easily be upgraded to iOS5. And it can be made to stand while typing or watching using its optional accessory magnetic smart cover.

It is offered in different versions and configurations in two different colors, namely black and white. There is an Apple iPad2 Wi-Fi only and the Wi-Fi + 3G versions and both are obtainable in 16, 32 and 64MB internal memory. In the 3G version the owner is given the freedom to choose for its provider that can either be Verizon or AT&T.

The same old iPad features retained on this model are the 9’7’ highly sensitive scratch-proof LED display and an amazing ten hours battery life. It also carries over the low connectivity of its predecessor because this still does not have standard USB and HDMI ports and memory card slots which in turn make saving and transferring data more complicated and tedious. No improvement was allotted to the screen resolution as well which was already pretty bad in the first generation. The photo quality is still not that good but not that bad either. Adobe flash support is still missing too forcing you to take the extra mile in watching videos. And yes this has more compact built but its design is almost comparable with iPhone so aesthetically this is not that great. Although the added contour has made it look less like a box.

The main thing is Apple has led the competition in tablet despite the shortcomings of its iPad. Whether we like it or not iPad2 will still sell high in the market. The much needed changes are yet to come but it should be sooner if Apple wants to keep up with the upcoming Android series.
